Biography
 

With a dynamic stage presence and expressive baritone, Matthew has established himself as a versatile performer in opera, operetta, and musical theatre. His wide-ranging roles include Papageno in The Magic Flute, Marcello in La bohème, Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore, Maximilian in Candide, and Leporello in Don Giovanni. His comedic flair and sharp diction have made him highly acclaimed for his performances in Gilbert and Sullivan operas, where his roles have included Jack Point in The Yeomen of the Guard, Ko-Ko in The Mikado, Lord Chancellor in Iolanthe, Dr Daly in The Sorcerer, Giuseppe in The Gondoliers, and Robin Oakapple in Ruddigore.

 

Matthew has worked extensively with leading opera companies, including Scottish Opera, Opera Holland Park, English National Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, and Charles Court Opera. His performances have taken him to venues across the UK and Europe.

 

On the concert platform, Matthew has performed many of the major oratorio works, including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Bach’s St John Passion and St Matthew Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation and The Seasons, and the Requiems of Verdi, Mozart, Brahms, and Fauré.
